Sen. Barack Obama "has come from behind to turn the Democratic presidential race in New Hampshire into a toss-up," according to a new Concord Monitor poll. Obama leads with 32%, followed by Sen. Hillary Clinton at 31%, John Edwards at 18% and Gov. Bill Richardson at 8%. Key finding: "The poll suggests that the Democratic race could hinge on the … Read More

From the Christian news Wbsite, WorldNetDaily: Satan has reared his ugly head in the 2008 presidential campaign – literally. Emphasis mine. The article then describes the recent dust-up between Huckabee and Romney over Romney’s Mormon faith. Nothing about Satan’s head.

MSNBC: With just slightly more than three weeks until the first nominating contest, three new MSNBC/McClatchy/Mason-Dixon polls show that the Democratic contest isn’t just a dead heat in Iowa — it’s also tied in New Hampshire and South Carolina. In Iowa, Clinton has the lead over Obama, 27%-25% (although that’s within the poll’s 5% margin of error), while Edwards comes … Read More

Would Jesus Believe In The Death Penalty?

Mike Huckabee got big laughs Wednesday night during the YouTube debate when he sidestepped a question about how Jesus might view capital punishment.  Huckabee responded by saying Jesus was too smart to run for public office. Funny?  Not really.  Evasive?  Definitely. The Arkansas Times notes the Huckabee has received the question before, and always dodged it.  Flashback to 1997, when … Read More

WaPo Editorial On Romney’s “Faith” Speech

Well said: RELIGIOUS liberty is, as Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney declared yesterday, "fundamental to America’s greatness." With religious division inciting violence across the globe, he is right to celebrate America’s tradition of religious tolerance. He’s right, too, that no one should vote against him, or for him, because he is a Mormon. We only wish his empathy for religious … Read More

What he said: STUDENT: Recent polls show you surging… What do you attribute this surge to? HUCKABEE: There’s only one explanation for it, and it’s not a human one. It’s the same power that helped a little boy with two fish and five loaves feed a crowd of five thousand people. (Applause) That’s the only way that our campaign can … Read More

Questions For Huckabee

In his GQ interview, Huckabee says: I don’t think the issue’s about being against gay marriage. It’s about being for traditional marriage and articulating the reason that’s important. You have to have a basic family structure. There’s never been a civilization that has rewritten what marriage and family means and survived. So there is a sense in which, you know, … Read More

Put bluntly: "America loves all Gods; hates everyone who is secular". Kevin Drum explains why… When Kennedy, as a presidential candidate went to the voters and spoke of his Catholicism, he assured them that no religion, even his own, will govern his presidency.  Romney, on the other hand, said today that all religion, including his own, will govern his presidency. … Read More

The Huckabee Surge And L’Affaire DuMond

Like him or not, I think it’s time he gets moved from the also-ran category to the candidate-to-be-taken-seriously category.  Check out the surge (Huckabee in green): He’s leading in Iowa, and the new LA Times/Bloomberg poll now has him in second nationally, surging past Romney.  [UPDATE:  Rassmussen poll out today has Huckabee in first nationally!] Not bad for a guy … Read More

Ugh.  So much to discuss: (1)  White House egg-on-the-face: After months of beating the war drums to invade Iraq, it turns out that Iran doesn’t have a nuclear bomb program after all.  As Matt says: "Meanwhile, how outrageous is it that the best twelve months of alarmism from Bush & Cheney have come in the context of an environment where … Read More

Can’t be good news for the Giuliani campaign UPDATE:  Uh oh.  Major media is picking up on it. AmericaBlog sums it up: This piece on Obama is just mind-bogglingly awful. Essentially, this is the summary: "There are a bunch of vicious rumors online about Obama. The GOP CNN/Youtube Debate

Ken AshfordElection 2008Leave a Comment

The right blogosphere is going apoplectic because a couple of the questioners in last night’s debates were (in their words) "plants".  Meaning, that the questioners lean toward Hillary or Obama or something. In other words, the questioners didn’t lob softball questions at the GOP candidates. Apparently, the "winner" was Huckabee, who looks destined for an Iowa victory, if trends continue.

Romney’s Bad Answer

Christian Science Monitor: I asked Mr. Romney whether he would consider including qualified Americans of the Islamic faith in his cabinet as advisers on national security matters, given his position that "jihadism" is the principal foreign policy threat facing America today. He answered, "…based on the numbers of American Muslims [as a percentage] in our population, I cannot see that … Read More
