Wrong Track

This is a very astounding number: Americans are more dissatisfied with the country’s direction than at any time since the New York Times/CBS News poll began asking about the subject in the early 1990s, according to the latest poll. In the poll, 81 percent of respondents said they believed "things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track." That’s … Read More

The front page of USA Today: “‘I really believe May 6 has the potential to be everything,’ says Joe Trippi… ‘Every day you see increased pressure on Hillary Clinton about why she’s staying in, and if she could win in North Carolina it would shut down that kind of talk and open up the possibility she could get there’ to … Read More

And Now Obama Is In The Lead In PA

…according to one stunning poll at least: Barack Obama has taken the lead in Pennsylvania, a remarkable turnaround after trailing Hillary Clinton by 26 points in a PPP poll in the state just two and a half weeks ago. Obama’s steep rise could be a reflection of a growing sense among Democratic voters that a continued divisive nomination process will … Read More

Pennsylvania Getting Close

Everyone has assumed, quite correctly, that Hillary will take Pennsylvania in the next primary.  She’s enjoyed double digits leads in every poll for months.  Even the Obama campaign isn’t cmapaigning hard there, choosing instead to focus on later states like North Carolina and Indiana. But whoa there. Rassmusson just came out with a poll showing that the Hillary stronghold on … Read More

Obama Cutting Into Hillary’s Superdel Advantage

WSJ: WASHINGTON — Slowly but steadily, a string of Democratic Party figures is taking Barack Obama’s side in the presidential nominating race and raising the pressure on Hillary Clinton to give up. Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota is expected to endorse Sen. Obama Monday, according to a Democrat familiar with her plans. Meanwhile, North Carolina’s seven Democratic House members are … Read More

Obama Leads Big In North Carolina

Ken AshfordElection 2008Leave a Comment

He came into town (well, Greensboro) on Wednesday, and packed the house. Hillary made three stops in North Carolina yesterday, including one in Winston-Salem, and Bill is hanging around today.  (In fact, as I look out my window, he’s on the streetcorner just standing there, talking to a hot dog vendor.  Nobody is even paying attention.  Now he’s trying to … Read More

Hillary On The Front Lines

Ken AshfordElection 2008Leave a Comment

I’d have to say that it really looks like Hillary was caught in a gross exaggeration: Hillary made the above statements in a speech where she was trying to taut her bonafides for that "3 a.m." call. The Washington Post has given her statements "four pinocchios".  Sinbad (the comedian), who was there, also had a different recollection of the events.  … Read More

I know discussions about tax policy are boring, but Hilzoy’s readable post is an eye-opener. Most of it can be explained in this chart: This chart explains who benefits from McCain’s tax plan.  The third line is most important.  If you are in the bottom quintile (your income is in the bottom 20% of the country), only 1% of the … Read More

Richardson Backs Obama

(1)  Former candidate Bill Richardson backs Obama (2)  James Carville calls the Richardson endorsement "an act of betrayal" and compares Richardson to Judas. (3)  At AmericaBlog, Aravosis quips: I’m gonna go on a limb here and say that Jesus did not die on the cross for Hillary’s superdelegates. Sounds right to me.

The Youtube Election

The funny thing about this presidential election, that was present in even the 2004 election, is that people are making up their own advertisements for the candidates, and these ads get seen by millions. Here is an ad for John McCain whicih, I’m guessing, is actually done by Obama or Clinton supporters, because after you see it, you’ll never even … Read More

The Speech

Ken AshfordElection 2008Leave a Comment

Here it is: I thought it was amazing (although it reads better than his actual delivery — although, then again, his delivery was better than any other candidates’ could have been). Obama managed to distance himself from the rhetoric of Wright (not a hard trick — in fact he’s been doing that for a couple of weeks now).  But then … Read More
