It’s a scathing opinion, right from the opening graf:
Judge Mehta rules against Trump in financial record case. Mehta starts his 41-page opinion with a quote from President Buchanan. pic.twitter.com/ZDmOYw6Rra— Charlie Gile (@CharlieGileNBC) May 20, 2019
“It is simply not fathomable that a Constitution that grants Congress the power to remove a President for reasons including criminal behavior would deny Congress the power to investigate him for unlawful conduct—past or present—even without“ opening impeachment, judge writes— Manu Raju (@mkraju) May 20, 2019
This opinion from Judge Mehta is an absolutely brutal takedown of the Trump legal arguments. pic.twitter.com/XmXfMD39Gz— Andrew Desiderio (@desiderioDC) May 20, 2019
Mehta’s opinion will now likely become fodder for other judges to consider as Trump and his Cabinet try to hold off Congress from getting his business records, such as through the IRS, banks and in other court fights.
