Trump: Lester Holt “Fudged” The Russia Tape

Trump’s tweets are out of control.  I mean, SOME days, he would tweet more than a couple tweets, but it was unusual for him to do more than 4 or 5.

But for the past several days, it has been, like, eight, nine, or more.

It’s not even 10:00am and Trump has tweeted TEN times.

The first three tweets were about CNN and other “dishonest media”.  Then a tweet about how good the financial markets are for everyone’s 401(k).  Then a tweet complaining about the “fake news” report that Ivanka and Jared had something to do with pushing McGahn out as White House counsel.

Here’s the sixth tweet:

I don’t know what that means. Is Trump saying he is not under investigation? That might be true although he sure acts otherwise.

Then two more “witch hunt” tweets — one about Bruce Ohr and one about how McGahn’s testimony to the “witch hunt” had nothing to do with why he is going.

Another one about McGahn — this one saying he was excited about his replacement and adding that McGahn had no part in Trump refusing to fire Mueller or Sessions (“fake news” blah blah blah).

And then finally, a tweet plugging his Evansville Indiana speech tonight.

But here’s the one that caught my eye — the second one.

Lester Holt “got caught fudging” Trump’s — Trump’s — tape on Russia?

What the hell is he talking about?  So I googled.  And here is the deadline at Mediate, that covers media issues:

Yeah.  What is he talking about?  Is he floating a new narrative that the Lester Holt interview — the one where Trump says he fired Comey because of Russia — was doctored in some way?

The full unedited NBC News interview was posted online and has been online since May 2017.

Relevant transcript below:

“He [Rosenstein] made a recommendation, he’s highly respected, very good guy, very smart guy. The Democrats like him, the Republicans like him. He made a recommendation. But regardless of [the] recommendation, I was going to fire Comey. Knowing there was no good time to do it!

And in fact when I decided to just do it I said to myself, I said, “You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story, it’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should’ve won.”

UPDATE – Another tweet from this morning. I overlooked it before, but it seems that Trump’s impulsiveness has inadvertently revealed the truth.

“MY” decision on Don McGahn? The story was that McGahn was not fired.  Now, it seems, he was!

Trump can’t help but put himself in the middle of things, even if they make him look bad.  He’s the guy in a “A Few Good Man” who yells “You’re DAMN RIGHT I ordered the Code Red, and I’d do it again!”
