Not very surprising for those of us who have seen it, but Next To Normal has taken the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Kind of cool that it happened to a musical. It's not unheard of that a musical wins, but it is infrequent (Rent, Sunday in the Park with George, and A Chorus Line are the last three musicals to have one the Pulitzer).
It beat out other Pulitzer finalists: The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity by Kristoffer Diaz; Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo by Rajiv Joseph; and In the Next Room or the vibrator play by Sarah Ruhl.
ALSO…. Hank Williams received a "Special Citation" from the Pulitzer committee, which works out nicely for my theater group.
