Five people have been have been shot at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita (35 miles north of Los Angeles), prompting schools in the area to be placed on lockdown and a massive response from sheriff’s deputies and paramedics. At least two are in critical condition.

The shooter, described as Asian, has not been apprehended.

Television images showed sheriff’s deputies swarming the school and several people being moved on gurneys.

Lines of students were escorted away from the school by armed deputies.

The shooting happened just after 7:30 a.m., as students were being dropped off to school.

This is a fluid situation, of course.

I have to remind everyone that, after saying they would present their own gun violence plan after El Paso amnd Dayton mass shootings, the White House has produced nothing at all on the issue

UPDATE: It looks like the police/SWAT have located the home or the hideout of the shooter, but they have not engaged him yet.

UPDATE #2: Lockdown ended. This is probably why, although not confirmed:

UPDATE #3: Well….
